Evidence-backed claims

Emil Einstein was married to Karoline/Caroline Schweizer and they were parents of Auguste and Josephine.

Civil records described in the archive identify the household and Karoline's maiden surname. Auguste's 1965 death certificate in S-027 independently names her parents as Emil Einstein and Caroline Schweizer; the informant was her daughter, Mrs. Max Wortsman.

Confirmed
Auguste Einstein was born 8 January 1877 in Stuttgart to Emil Einstein and Karoline Schweizer.

The linked Stuttgart birth notice establishes the event and parents. S-027's certified Georgia death record independently repeats the exact birth date, Germany as birthplace, and the parents Emil Einstein and Caroline Schweizer.

Confirmed
The Karoline Einstein in the Stuttgart Pragfriedhof index, born 7 November 1854 and died 11 December 1924, is Emil Einstein’s widow Karoline Schweizer.

The cemetery index and Stuttgart civil death entry agree exactly on name, birth date, death date, and city; the death entry additionally identifies her as née Schweizer and widow of merchant Emil Einstein.

Confirmed
The Caroline Einstein gravestone dated 1812–1882 is not Auguste’s mother Karoline Schweizer Einstein.

Chronology and identity conflict with the target Karoline; the prior conflation was explicitly rejected in the research dossier.

Rejected
Karoline Einstein, née Schweizer, widow of merchant Emil Einstein, was born 7 November 1854 in Altdorf bei Ettenheim and died 11 December 1924 in Stuttgart.

The Stuttgart civil death entry explicitly names Karoline as née Schweizer, widow of merchant Emil Einstein, and records her birth as 7 November 1854 at Altdorf bei Ettenheim; these identifiers distinguish her from the cemetery namesake candidates.

Confirmed
Ludwig Einstein, born 26 July 1880 in Stuttgart, was a son of Emil Einstein and Karoline/Caroline Schweizer and therefore a brother of Auguste Einstein Saalfeld, Melita Einstein Levy, and Josephine Einstein Schwarzschild Stone.

Ludwig's naturalization file and draft card establish the same Stuttgart-born man, with the exact birth date 26 July 1880, at 3897 Clay Street. The 1940 and 1950 censuses directly call him Melita Levy's brother, and the 1950 census also calls Josephine Stone their sister. C-019 independently bridges Melita to Auguste, while C-009 establishes Auguste and Josephine as daughters of Emil Einstein and Karoline/Caroline Schweizer. The California death index matches Ludwig's exact birth date and reports his mother's maiden name as Schweitzer and father's surname as Einstein. Ludwig's 1939 manifests also name cousins in the Laupheim Einstein network and at 3800 Washington Street in San Francisco. Josephine independently named the same San Francisco cousin, Corinne Koshland; Corinne's signed passport uses the maiden name Schweitzer, and the likely Laupheim cousin Benno Nördlinger was a son of Pauline Einstein. This convergence makes the parentage and sibling relationship highly likely.
