Reliability and limits
Complete 10-page high-resolution file recovered from the National Archives' expiring Onehub delivery on 27 August 2026. It includes the Certificate of Arrival, Declaration, Petition, witness depositions, oath, and certificate card; all ten pages were visually reviewed on 31 August 2026. The declaration names Cherbourg as Max's port of emigration while the petition names Southampton. The declaration gives the marriage place as Limburg, while the petition gives Stuttgart. Those discrepancies are preserved rather than resolved. The PDF is held in the private archive; public metadata may be shared.
Supported discoveries
Krummenacher's source-cited account supports the Swiss refuge and escape episode. S-026 adds signed retrospective accounts and institutional records that independently support the family's Swiss refuge and escape. Max and Caecilie's NARA files independently document their shared 9 March 1939 arrival at New York aboard the SS Queen Mary, Caecilie's last foreign residence in St. Gallen, and their later settlement in Birmingham and Atlanta.
The complete NARA Atlanta file contains the petition filed in the U.S. District Court at Atlanta on 12 May 1944, Max's oath dated 2 August 1944, and the associated certificate card showing certificate 6106842 issued 3 August 1944.
Their separate Certificates of Arrival and naturalization filings agree on the New York date and vessel. Caecilie's declaration and petition both name St. Gallen as her last foreign residence; Max's filings name Stuttgart.
