C-017 · Strongly supported
Max and Caecilie Wortsmann and their children escaped Germany through Switzerland before settling in the United States.
Evidence
Krummenacher's source-cited account supports the Swiss refuge and escape episode. S-026 adds signed retrospective accounts and institutional records that independently support the family's Swiss refuge and escape. Max and Caecilie's NARA files independently document their shared 9 March 1939 arrival at New York aboard the SS Queen Mary, Caecilie's last foreign residence in St. Gallen, and their later settlement in Birmingham and Atlanta.

What remains uncertain
The source layers disagree on exact individual arrival dates and on the ordering and geography of Max's failed attempts. The naturalization files do not establish when the two children entered the United States. The underlying contemporary St. Gallen and Swiss federal records remain pending.
