Reliability and limits

Complete archival reproduction comprising 341 scan images, delivered by the reproduction service on 18 August 2026 and recovered on 27 August 2026. The original ZIP is held in the private archive. The package is complete and checksum verified. On 13 September 2026 all 341 JPEGs were systematically reviewed in filename order using local OCR as a discovery aid, visual contact sheets for complete coverage, and full-resolution inspection of every image used as evidence. OCR derivatives and scans remain outside Git. Evidentiary layers must not be collapsed. Josephine's recollections and counsel's submissions are claimant evidence; bank ledgers and probate papers are contemporary or official records; the compensation authority's findings are later administrative conclusions. In particular, the file establishes deportation to Theresienstadt and transfer to Auschwitz but says he was then missing. The authority inferred death soon after arrival and assigned 31 May 1944 as a statutory death date; it is not an eyewitness death record. Likewise, the DM 500 property-levy settlement was an evidentiary compromise, not proof of the levy amount claimed. Public metadata may be shared; scan publication requires separate rights review.

Supported discoveries

Siegfried Schwarzschild was deported in 1942, transferred from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz on 16 May 1944, and disappeared after that transport. The compensation authority later fixed 31 May 1944 as his statutory death date; this was a legal inference, not a documented eyewitness death date.

S-025 images 0104-0105 and 0173-0174 record official findings based on ITS Arolsen and Israelite community evidence: compulsory Jewish-star wearing from 19 September 1941, deportation to Theresienstadt on 23 August 1942 (with a separate claimant account giving 22 August), transfer to Auschwitz on 16 May 1944 on transport Ea 1933, and disappearance thereafter. The authority treated the transport as a death transport, inferred death soon after arrival, and fixed 31 May 1944 under section 180(2) BEG. S-072 independently preserves the same broad sequence.

Confirmed
Siegfried Schwarzschild was a merchant and, until 1930, partner in a wholesale metals and metallurgical-products business. He later operated a travel bureau on Koenigstrasse in Stuttgart with two employees, was forced to give up that business because he was Jewish by the end of 1938, and subsequently operated the Jewish emigration office's travel bureau through 22 April 1941.

S-025 image 0090 contains the compensation authority's occupational findings. Image 0086 independently reports the Israelite community's recollection that his Koenigstrasse travel bureau operated successfully. Images 0005-0074 are surviving bank ledgers, and counsel's images 0133-0136 connect account 44613 to Siegfried and account 44111 to the Jewish emigration office travel bureau. The authority accepted persecution-related occupational loss but did not accept counsel's requested higher earnings classification.

Strongly supported
Baden-Wuerttemberg awarded Siegfried Schwarzschild's heirs DM 4,784 for lost occupational advancement and Josephine Stone DM 4,800 for deprivation of his liberty. As his widow, Josephine also received DM 26,791 in death-related arrears and capital compensation plus a monthly pension initially set at DM 207; the pension was repeatedly adjusted until her death in 1980.

The signed decisions and payment records in S-025 directly record the awards. Images 0089-0091 award DM 4,784 for 65 months of occupational loss from 1 January 1939 through the statutory death date. Images 0103-0105 award DM 4,800 for 32 full months of Jewish-star restriction and imprisonment from 19 September 1941 through 31 May 1944. Images 0172-0176 award a DM 14,760 capital payment, DM 12,031 pension arrears, and DM 207 monthly from October 1958. Later images document periodic statutory recalculations and closure after Josephine's 13 July 1980 death.
